Electric co-ops advocate for rural Iowa during “REC Day on the Hill”
Iowa’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives celebrated the 27th annual “Momentum Is Building” conference Feb. 7–8 at the Sheraton West Des Moines hotel.

Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) announces an $85 million investment to repower the natural gas-fired Summit Lake Generating Station in Creston. The project includes demolition of the 70-year old steam plant, installation of efficient natural gas-fired reciprocating engines, construction of a new operations and dispatch center, and substation upgrades all by late 2022.
Iowa’s locally owned electric cooperatives have a long history of supporting energy efficiency; in fact, we’ve been offering cost-effective energy efficiency programs since the late 1980s. These programs include rebates and incentives for various energy-efficient products, such as Energy Star rated hot water heaters, clothes washers and dryers.
The 2018-2019 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) has been established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs for the winter heating season. The assistance is based on household income, household size, type of fuel and type of housing.
Southwest Iowa REC’s Lucas Dalton has successfully completed a comprehensive lineworker certification program. The Lineworker Certification Program is the time-tested benchmark of apprentice and lineworker training programs and is administered through the Northwest Lineman College. The Lineworker Certification Program is a distance-learning training program offered to electric utility and construction companies for the certification of their lineworker employees
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Leaders at Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) expressed guarded optimism about today's announcement by Florida-based NextEra Energy Resources (NEER) and Alliant Energy that a 2020 closure of the Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC) will result in a win for the state of Iowa.
