2014 REC Day on the Hill

Over 200 cooperative supporters, including representatives from Southwest Iowa REC traveled to Des Moines on Wednesday, March 19 to advocate for electric cooperatives.  The co-op representatives met for a briefing to receive updates on state and federal legislative issues and then traveled to the Capitol where they met with their local elected officials during a dessert social.

The co-ops focused on thanking legislators for supporting two initiatives important to the electric cooperatives: streamlining of the indenture process and supporting the joint resolution that expressed concern over FEMA's recent policy change, and urging FEMA to reconsider that change so that the cost of storm recovery is not borne on the backs of the member-consumers of the RECs.

"This annual visit to the Iowa Capitol is an excellent opportunity to personally visit with our elected officials and provide them with a co-op perspective on issues that are important to our business," says CEO/General Manager Phil Kinser.
